If you're looking for some movies to pass the time at home while you beat the heat, I've got a couple of recommendations for you.



A couple who is expecting their first child travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover "home" on their own terms for the first time. This is really good dramedy (mostly comedy) that keeps your attention from beginning to end. The visit to the male lead sister's house Ellen\L.N is not to be missed.....classic!

Get into US borders by illegal ways could be a dramatic journey, but this is not a problem for Reina, a colombian teenager who only wants to live the american dream in NY. Her boyfriend is confused about his feelings and follow her, leaving behind his own dreams and a quite and simple life back in Medellin. When he faces the reality and find out his current situation alone in the big apple and with nothing else in this pockets but hopeless and sadness about his choices, we find out a story about turns and crude reality. I caught this film during a bout of insomnia last week. It drew me in from the very first scene. This movie gives a very good and an extremely detailed look into what it's really like for those that choose to immigrate illegally into the US. While it's just one story, it almost seems like two as it chronicles the people's travel to the states as well as their journey once they make it here parallel with one another. While the story mainly follows two kids 'in love' Reina (aka crazy bitch) and Marlon (aka my future baby daddy in another life), it does of good job of bringing other characters into the fold to help round it out.
(This movie does have subtitles so if you're not into reading and watching, you may want to sit this one out.)

Mistah and I are going to check these talented comedians out at the end of May. I heard the announcement on one of the Memphis radio stations this morning and quickly picked up the phone to call him. I received a resounding 'HELL YEAH!!!' when I asked if he wanted to go. :) With this combination, I'm pretty sure I will piss myself a couple of times so I think I'll buy a package of Poise Pads just to be on the safe side.

They will be at the DeSoto County Civic Center (in Southaven, MS right outside of Memphis) May 29th if you're interested.

FUN FACT

I was saddened to learn about Dixie Carter's (aka Julia Sugarbaker from the show 'Designing Women') passing the weekend before last. I really loved that show and her character. Honestly, I loved everyone ....especially Bernice. She kept me in stiches! Black Maaaaaaaaan, Black Maaaaaaaan! LMAO

In reading the paper this past weekend, I learned something new and fun. One of the writers did a tribute article of sorts about Dixie and her favorite episodes, scenes, etc. Imagine my surprise when I read that the house (where the design firm was) featured on the show is actually a snapshot of the Villa Marre right here in Little Rock. WHO KNEW? Not me. At any rate, I think it's pretty cool.

I should have taken another day off but alas here I sit at my desk at work. Oh well.

The weekend was very much uneventful, with the exception of the comedy show, but peaceful. I have no complaints. I didn’t make it anywhere close to a Black Friday sale. I had intentions of going out to Tarjay to get a vacuum but my heart really wasn’t in it. It meaning getting up out of my cozy bed AND spending that much $$ for a home appliance. Again I say, oh well.

I did get a little shopping Saturday afternoon prior to lunch with some friends. FYI, Cantino Laredo has some of THE best salsa I have ever tasted in.my.life (the strawberry mojitos aren’t too shabby either). I pigged out so much on that that I barely ate my entrée.

I scooped up a cute yellow cardigan for my niece. I want to find a (cheap) little accessory for her as well. Too bad on don’t work on the west side of town anymore because I'm sure Accessory City has something in that HUGE store for her and me too. If boss lady wasn’t here today I surely would venture over to take a looksie. Hmmmmm, I guess this means I’ll have to actually shop for presents instead of just buying gift cards this year. Oh well.

I wish I would have remembered to charge my camera battery so I could have recorded Lavelle Crawford for ya’ll. Gary (Coleman Owen (I JUST realized, two days after this post, that I typed Coleman instead of Owen. LMAO)) and Bruce Bruce were super funny but Lavelle…..he's on some other sh*t! To hear him talk about McD’s and turkey smothered in strawberry preserves.....*smh* Ya’ll I laughed so hard that I cried the entire time he was on stage. My throat was even scratchy. Truth be told, I wouldn’t have been mad if he were the only comedian. If there is ever an opportunity for you to see him, don’t walk, RUN!!! You won’t regret it. Here’s a little bit of his routine I snatched from YouTube. He used a few of these jokes so I guess it was kind of like being there. :)

I heard Tyler Perry talking about this movie sometime last year on the Steve Harvey morning show. While Tyler was pumping it up, he mentioned that Monique was one of the actors and that her performance was Oscar bound (or something like that). I choked on my drink. Then he said Mariah (Carey) was in it too. Hearing that and the mention of the movie name, "Precious", made me laugh as visions of a Glitter-esque performance danced in my head. After watching this trailer, I vow to no longer talk bad 'bout Mrs. Cannon or Mrs. Monique. This movie looks good as hell and I will be there to see it.

In Living Color.......

One of my colleagues was on The Colbert Report last night. It was pretty surreal to see her name on the cable information when I went to set a reminder yesterday and hear Colbert say her name at the beginning of the show. Unfortunately, I only made it into the first 5 minutes before it was lights out for me. Sleep reigns supreme again!!! Thank goodness for the internets!!! I'm watching the show now.
